Tanzanian farmers quickly adopt new agro practices

"It's amazing to see how quick and easy farmers are adopting modern agricultural practices", says Innocent Kavela. Innocent works as an extension officer for Agrics in Ipililo, in Maswa district, Tanzania. "We started last year in this region with 556 smallholder farmers", Innocent continues. "In only one year we managed to reach 950 farmers from five different villages and the interest of farmers is still growing. They are all using certified seeds of maize and sunflowers now and they started using fertilizer. It is my task to train and encourage farmers to adopt modern agricultural practices, to make sure the output of these farmers will improve significantly. We follow national recognized standards and of course the Agrics model to make it happen."

“When I realise the impact this has on the lives of farmers and that I'm part of this movement I feel very proud. Agrics plays an important role in overcoming hunger in Maswa district. The farmers recently received their orders of seeds and fertilizer. Now we wait for the rain showers to come so we can start planting. We are ready for a new season."
